Hostel & House For Sale

The property is still for sale but please don't let that put you off booking.  Everyone who has shown serious interest has said that they would continue to run the hostel.  If you would like to step into our shoes, then view the details on the Strutt & Parker website or on this website, via side menu.

07/10

Advance Bookings Until October 31st

Bookings open until October 31st, book on-line or give us a call or send an email. Bookings after that date will be opened up at the end of August. The hostel to be closed for most of November for staff holidays.

05/10

Transport for Customers

Changes to our car insurance mean we are no longer able to pick-up/drop-off customers at Newtonmore or Kingussie Railway Stations or anywhere else. There is an excellent local taxi service or you could walk from Newtonmore, it's less than a mile.

02/10

The Hostel is a Dog Free Zone

But...... if your dog sleeps in your vehicle, does not bark at us or other customers, refrains from defecating on our lawn, does not kill and try to eat our chickens and is more or less invisible then may be able to bring one. Under no circumstance will a dog be allowed inside the hostel building. To be honest, we don't really like dogs so you would do better taking your dog elsewhere.

10/09

USE OF HOSTEL FACILITIES

Staying at the hostel gives you the right to use the facilities from 15.00 on the day of arrival until 10.00 on the day of departure.

Early check-in

  • If we are still cleaning, then you won't be allowed to check in.
  • If cleaning is complete, you might be able to check-in early; there is a charge of £1 per person per hour (or part) up to a maximum of £5 per person.
  • If you don’t have a vehicle, it might be possible to leave luggage (at your own risk) in the drying room or kitchen.

Late check-out

  • You must ask first.
  • If you’re waiting for transport (bus/train/lift) and want to use the hostel facilities during the day or evening then the charge is £1.00 per hour (or part) per person up to a maximum of £5.
  • Bedrooms must always be vacated by 10.00, sorry no sleeping in on your last morning.
  • If you don’t have a vehicle you can leave luggage (at your own risk) in the drying room or kitchen.

Use of hostel facilities outside normal hours is dependent on the daily cleaning being finished and someone being available to check that the hostel is still clean after you have gone.  Sometimes early check-in and/or late check-out will simply NOT be possible.

On-Line Booking (HostelWorld and HostelBookers)

If you want to book on-line you are welcome to do so. It is only possible to book a private room. If you want to book anything else such as a single, family room or group booking you will need to contact us directly

bikes

We don’t hire bikes.  (The huge number of bikes in the garage might lead you to think otherwise, but they are mostly Peter’s!)  However we do have a couple of bikes we can loan to customers.

They are basic MTBs in good working order.  They would fit most people and are ideal for a wee ride around the local roads and trails or for riding into the hills to do a mountain walk.

We will also supply helmet (if you want one), small toolkit, maps, and bike lock.

Conditions of loan are:

  • You must make a minimum donation of £5. We will donate the money to charity using the Gift Aid system and this will increase the value of your donation by 20%.  Charities may include Alzheimer Scotland, Leukemia Research, and the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team.
  • You accept full responsibility for your own safety and any accident or injury that might occur
  • The bike must not used at Laggan Wolftrax

06/09

Breakfast

Advance bookings, only available for people moving on and in a hurry; particularly cyclists & walkers .

05/09

Booking Conditions Alteration

We have added the following paragraph to our booking conditions........

"Your booking is only for the members of your group who are staying in the hostel. If other group members, staying locally, wish to use the hostel facilities then please consult us, in advance, to discuss numbers, facilities to be used and charges this will incur".

01/09

Towels - Please bring your own but.................

After we we struggled to get dry after a shower in a YHA hostel in London (no towels provided), we have decided that if you have forgotten your towel we will provide you with a towel, free of charge. Walkers and cyclists will be always offered a towel on arrival.

PLASTIC BOTTLES & TETRA PAKS

Fruit juice and milk cartons

We can now re-cycle type 1 (PET) and type 2 (HDPE) plastic bottles. If you are confused about types of plastic, as we were, here is a 'rough guide'. The type of plastic is usually marked with a small symbol (see opposite) on the bottom of the container. Its hard to find, keep looking, but if you can't find it then generally speaking we re-cycle all plastic bottles

Spring is one of the best times of the year here in Newtonmore. These pictures are here to remind us that however dark, wet and rainy it sometimes is, this beautiful time will come again each year.
